It’s the Bee Netball Fly through!

Bee Netball is the perfect way to get primary school children falling in love with netball – while delivering valuable educational lessons too

Bee Netball is friendly, high-energy and carefully designed for children.

The programme is aimed at 5-11-year-olds and supports the development of core netball skills of throwing, catching, attack, defence and shooting.

But more importantly, the programme is designed to support every child’s personal development on and beyond the court.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Bee Netball can be delivered within both schools and netball clubs and there are a number of resources that can be accessed to help both. With schemes of work and resources for teachers, we are working hard to make Bee Netball a popular sport in all primary schools.

To help more schools deliver Bee Netball, we have partnered with the Youth Sports Trust (YST) and local School Games Organisers (SGOs) to co-create a fantastic Bee Netball offer for schools.

Bee Netball nurtures the physical, social and emotional development of children. During the Covid pandemic, many children missed the early years of school and consequently the all important social development that happens in those years. Many of those children are now struggling with things like sharing, communicating, working with their peers and generally struggling to settle. For this reason, our work with SGOs targets years 3 & 4 and years 5 & 6 (the children most impacted by missing early school days) so that Bee Netball can truly support holistic child development.

WHAT BEE NETBALL CAN DO FOR…

CLUBS & COACHES

Any club with members aged 5-11 can deliver Bee Netball.

Training-wise, England Netball offers a six-hour face-to-face Bee Leader course, aimed at giving you the confidence and expertise to deliver Bee Netball.

The course is fully practical – you can learn from and with other volunteers guided by one of our expert tutors. You will be equipped with the necessary skills to deliver Bee Netball, as well as how to support children.

Anyone over the age of 18 can attend. No prior coaching experience is necessary; the course is open to everyone from parent helpers to existing coaches.

CHILDREN

Bee Netball is made especially for you and your friends. At Bee Netball you will play lots of games, have lots of fun and most importantly get to be yourself with your friends.

The grown-ups at Bee Netball will make sure you know what to do and will help you. They will also listen to your ideas and love to hear about your favourite games in Bee Netball.

Anyone can play Bee Netball, and everyone will help you learn how to play.

Bees can buy their very own personalised Bee Netball T-shirt that will have their name on. You can purchase our Bee Netball Activity Packs as well as equipment and kit here

SGOs AND TEACHERS

Bee Netball helps children enjoy being active and progress while both learning and playing the game.

Bee Netball proactively supports the social development of children and our ‘Beeliefs’ enable key skills and character traits to be at the forefront of any activity, while learning the skills of the game.

Any primary school can deliver Bee Netball within the curriculum and/or as part of the wider school programme; we have a range of resources to help subject leads and teachers get to grips with all things Bee Netball.

Bee Netball can also be held as a lunch or after school activity for children keen to be with their friends, practise their skills and super charge their team work.

We know lots of school playgrounds already have netball lines marked on them, but if your school doesn’t have lines or hasn’t got netball posts just yet, it doesn’t mean your pupils can’t enjoy Bee Netball.

What makes Bee Netball particularly special is at the heart of everything are the ‘Beeliefs’. These can be used within any Bee Netball activity at your school, but also across your whole school if you think they will help.

School Aims:
• Developing happy, healthy children
• Building physical confidence
• Including SEN children
• Supporting Key Stage transitions
• Creating a love of active play
• Being a maternal presence and voice for every child
