Netball Development Officer Abbey Barry has been involved in a ground-breaking scheme in the Manchester area.
In partnership with Manchester City of Sanctuary, and funded by the We Love MCR charity, Abbey ran a Back to Netball programme for women who are asylum seekers and refugees. The BBC visited and filmed this feature that you can watch in the video above.
Abbey says: “The programme ran for just over a year and we had over 100 ladies take part in the weekly sessions over that time. When we started, the majority had no idea what netball was and it was such a joy to see them develop over time. One lady has gone on to play for a registered club, which is just amazing.”
