Welcome to this issue of 5TH QTR which comes at a time of transformational change for our sport. The announcement of the relaunched Netball Super League (NSL) for 2025 has generated a huge reaction, with our passionate Netball Family sharing sadness in response to the news that four much-loved Clubs will not be competing in the NSL in 2025, along with excitement about the two new Clubs joining the League. This is a pivotal moment for our sport and so in this edition, I hope that we are able to answer some of the questions you might have about the new League whilst continuing to tell a range of stories from across the breadth of our Netball Family, from Bee Netballers to the Vitality Roses.
We’ll take a trip down memory lane and speak to four true legends from the past 19 years of the NSL in Maggie Jackson, Jackie Mizon, Pamela Cookey and Serena Kersten, asking them to reveal their most memorable moments and their standout players. Elsewhere, we’ll find out more about the newly announced Vitality Roses and Future Roses who are preparing to take to court in the red dress in the 2024-25 season and mark Pride Month by speaking to Sam and Alfie, a mother and son who have found a true sense of belonging in netball.
We also speak exclusively to Sonia Mkoloma about her new role as Roses Pathway Head Coach and the importance of grassroots clubs in developing the Roses of the future and look back on the impact of the first year of our industry-leading NETBALLHer initiative.
