Introducing the SUPER SHOT!

As the Netball Super League relaunches at the start of a ten-year professionalisation journey, a series of new rules and innovations are set to be introduced, the first of which is the Super Shot.

Bringing additional excitement and jeopardy to the game, a two-goal Super Shot will be introduced for the upcoming season starting in March 2025. This new rule, which was first introduced to elite netball in Australia’s Suncorp Super Netball league in 2020, allows teams to score two-goal shots by scoring from a dedicated area within the outer edge of the shooting circle during the last five minutes of each quarter in every match. Whilst the Super Shot is in play, shooters can still also score one-goal shots from the area of the shooting circle that is closer to the net.

The introduction of the Super Shot will support the League’s ambition to create closer, more competitive matches by allowing teams the opportunity to score multiple goals quickly at the end of every quarter, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

The Super Shot will also be in play during the final three minutes of every half at the inaugural Netball Super Cup, the new one-day competition to be held at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena on 8 March 2025. The Super Shot rule will apply to the NSL only, and not the NXT Gen League which sits underneath.

NSL Managing Director Claire Nelson said: “We are thrilled to announce this exciting new rule that will enhance fans’ experiences of the game. Developed in consultation with our key stakeholders and driven by our commitment to creating a product that is captivating, competitive and will attract more fans than ever before to buy tickets and tune in to watch the NSL, the introduction of the Super Shot will be a fantastic showcase of the incredible skill and athleticism of our powerful female athletes and will supercharge our game to a whole new level of excitement.
