Welcome

Hello and welcome to your spring edition of 5TH QTR magazine. For many of the Netball Family, we’ve reached the end of another brilliant netball season and, whether you’re hanging up your trainers for a break over the summer, or busy pulling together team lists for your local summer league, I hope you’ve all made some wonderful memories playing, coaching, officiating, supporting or volunteering over the past season.

So much has happened in the netball world since the last edition of 5TH QTR magazine and I hope you enjoy discovering it all in this jam-packed edition.

From celebrating the Vitality Roses winning the Vitality Netball Nations Cup for the first time ever to reflecting on two hugely important tours for our U21 and U17 pathway athletes, there is plenty to catch up on from the international stage. In this magazine you’ll be able to find an exclusive interview with Sonia Mkoloma, Roses Pathway Head Coach, who lifts the lid on the U21s tour to Australia, and the important development opportunities this provided as we prepare for the Netball World Youth Cup this summer.

We also look back on a busy season of netball across the country, reflecting on both the National Schools and National Clubs Finals, taking a look at our commitment to Tess Howard MBE’s Inclusive Kit Charter, sharing how one club has truly embraced inclusive kit, and celebrating a milestone birthday for Haltemprice Walking Netball group. We look ahead to the England Thorns’ upcoming series against the Australian Kelpies and also shine a light on the work being done to better connect with our brilliant coaches across the game.

Meanwhile on the elite domestic stage, the Netball Super League’s relaunch is well and truly underway. It has been fantastic to see our Netball Family come together to support and celebrate this momentous change for our sport, and we have seen significant growth in broadcast viewers, ticket sales and digital engagement so far this season. Thank you to everyone who has bought a ticket, watched a game on Sky Sports and BBC Sport, or followed along on socials for showing up for our sport, our athletes, and the next generation of NSL stars.

You’ll find interviews with players and coaches from across the NSL inside this edition of 5TH QTR magazine, as well as exclusive insight into some of the stand-out stories from the Netball Family over the past four months. And as we look forwards to what is coming up, all eyes now turn to the NSL Grand Final which will be held for the very first time at The O2 on 6 July.

We don’t know who will take to court on the big day just yet, but we do know that it will be an action-packed day full of unmissable experiences and entertainment both on and beyond the court. I am so looking forward to celebrating the end of the first season of the relaunched League and crowning the 2025 Netball Super League champions at what is sure to be an extraordinary event. If you’d like to be there to watch it all unfold live, tickets are available here with a 10% discount for England Netball members. I can’t wait to see you there!
